MariWeb™ Network Monitoring System [NMS]

29 December 2009

Network Monitoring system

The NMS collects all alarms from within the entire MariWeb™ AIS network including all Central Data Servers [CDS] and associated components the AIS Base Station Controllers [BSC] and the AIS base stations. The NMS is closely linked to the AIS Service Management [ASM] and displays and manages all performance issues and failures.

The MariWeb™ network alarms are displayed in different formats for the network administrator and include a circular tree diagram, a GIS diagram and a tabular diagram. The colours of the PSS and node symbols change according to the alarm status of each PSS or node.

All PSS and MariWeb™ node alarms are routed back to the NMS and stored in a separate database along with a timestamp. The NMS alarm database can be queried to investigate any specific alarm.

The performance of any PSS and any MariWeb™ node communication port can be displayed using the NMS. All performance data is collected in the NMS and is presented in tabular format. The table can be exported in CSV format and downloaded from the MariWeb™ NMS system at any time.

The volume of all MariWeb™ network activity on all ports and the delays associated with the WAN links between PSS and the CDS environment are all monitored on an ongoing basis and recoded. These can be seen in a graphical representation on a daily, weekly and monthly basis facilitating maintenance.

The alarms in the NMS are converted to SNMP traps where and when required for interfacing to other external Information Technology [IT] monitoring systems such as HP Open View.
