MariWeb™ overview

MariWeb™ is a unique suite of Automatic Identification System [AIS] network software that implements the full International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities [IALA] A-124, IALA A-126 and IALA A-123 Recommendations along with United States Coastguard [USCG] Port And Waterway Safety System [PAWSS] AIS message set and the Inland waterway AIS message definitions.

MariWeb™ is high performance and implements the published standards and recommendations providing a suite of software that runs on Commercial Off The Shelf [COTS] hardware and is not locked into any specific AIS base station or telemetry peripheral.

In support of all recommendations and published standards that pertain to the AIS technology, systems and networks, MariWeb™ documentation and implementation uses the network descriptions, Base AIS Services [BAS] and terminology promoted by IALA, The Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services [RTCM], International Telecommunication Union [ITU], International Electrotechnical Commission [IEC] and International Maritime Organisation [IMO] with regards to AIS network design, installation and operation.

Unique MariWeb™ Features

MariWeb™ implements the latest version of the published standards and recommendations including the full suite of AIS base station IEC61162 messages as defined in the IEC62320-1 specification.

MariWeb™ does not implement any proprietary interfaces or limit the customer to using any particular manufacturer or brand of AIS Base Station or equipment thereby supporting AIS as an open and published standard.

MariWeb™ is fully web enabled with an OpenGIS compliant chart / map server allowing a standard Internet browser to be used by the operators, network administrators and managers. The Geographic Information System [GIS] server ensures that a variety of charts, maps and geo-referenced images can be used without being locked into a specific chart or image type including S57, GeoTIFF, ESRI® and a range of raster formats. Thirdparty Chart and Map Servers can be integrated allowing S63 and other format and projection charts and maps to be used. For more on the MariWeb™ Chart Server [MCS].

MariWeb™ allows the use of Google® Maps, including Map, Satellite and Terrain views, as a backup, an interface for public users and a suitable map for presentations or as a test environment provided Internet connectivity is available to the operator.

MariWeb™ allows the customer to choose the Operating System [OS] according to the customer’s needs.  MariWeb™ allows virtualised operating systems providing the customer with flexibility of choice. Additional license fees are incurred when not using Linux®.

MariWeb™ allows the customer to choose the database application according to the customer’s needs and includes MySQL®, Microsoft® SQL Server® and Oracle® database applications. Additional license fees are incurred when not using MySQL®.

MariWeb™ supports many governmental visions of Free and Open Source Software [FOSS] by being able to offer an AIS network that uses applications licensed under the General Public License [GPL] that include, Linux® operating systems (Red Hat 9, Fedora 8, Fedora 11, openSUSE 11), open source relational database system (MySQL®) and open source Graphical User Interface [GUI] (using Mozilla Firefox and Google® Chrome).

MariWeb™ source code is, if required, made available under specified ESCROW terms and conditions and updated on a regular basis. The source code versions are maintained according to the IMIS Global Limited ISO9001:2000 policies.

MariWeb™ has been deployed on a global basis (includes Belgium, Greece, France, Uruguay, Croatia, United Kingdom and the United States of America) and comes along with a world class history of stability, features and support.

The IMIS MariWeb™ AIS network includes the following modules:

MariWeb™ continues to be developed and due to its modular design, new modules can be designed and included and existing modules can be combined to satisfy the requirements of the customer.
